The United States announced today new sanctions against one of the grandsons of former Cuban president Raúl Castro, as part of a campaign of economic pressure on Havana. The sanctions also include the Banco Exterior de Cuba and four other Cuban companies.
The announcement was made by the United States Treasury, which designated five entities and an individual whose activities are allegedly used to support strategic sectors of the Cuban regime, including financial services, metals and mining, and energy.
According to the Secretary of the Treasury, the sanctioned entities are part of networks that promote threats to the national security of the United States, financially supporting the Cuban government.
