The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced on Thursday her protest against the Ministry of Finance, which would take place at the meeting of the Council for Fiscal and Financial Policy (CPFF) on Friday. Ayuso opposes the plan of Finance Minister Arcadi España to implement a new model of financing the autonomous communities.
Ayuso's protest failed to gain support from the other regions governed by the Popular Party. Despite the efforts of the Madrid president, none of the other PP-led regions supported her initiative to boycott the CPFF meeting.
The CPFF meeting aimed to debate and advance the proposal for a new model of regional financing. Minister Arcadi España intended to obtain support for his strategy during this encounter, which ended up taking place without Madrid's participation.
The protest announcement came just hours after the extraordinary plenary session in Congress on the Ceuta crisis, where the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, appeared. This sequence of events reflects the political tensions between the central Executive and the Community of Madrid.
