The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), exonerated on Thursday (3) delegate Carlos Alberto da Cunha, known as Delegate Da Cunha, who is also a federal deputy for União Brasil. The dismissal was published in the state's Official Gazette and ends a disciplinary process that had been pending at the Internal Affairs Office of the Civil Police since 2020.
Delegate Da Cunha has been a member of the Civil Police for 23 years, but had been away from the position since he took office as a federal deputy in Brasília. By law, a police delegate can only be exonerated by the governor's decision, which finally occurred now under Tarcísio de Freitas's administration.
The disciplinary process against Da Cunha was delivered to the governor's office still under Rodrigo Garcia's administration, in 2022. He was accused of staging the recording of a video with an alleged kidnapping victim, with the goal of gaining followers on social media.
In addition, Da Cunha was accused of using the Civil Police structure to record videos of operations that were shown on his personal social media accounts, which constituted misuse of public resources for personal and political purposes.
