The parties Livre, PCP and BE accused Chega of not being interested in obtaining clarifications from the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, about the situation on São João night in Porto, where dozens of people were arrested following clashes between PSP agents and civilians. The criticisms arose after the Chega party rejected a request from PS that requested the minister's hearing in parliament.
Minister Luís Neves had requested a hearing in the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Liberties and Guarantees to provide clarifications about the events on São João night. However, Chega preferred to proceed with a motion of censure against the Government instead of supporting the minister's hearing request.
The parliamentary leaders met this Thursday and decided that Chega's motion of censure against the Government will be discussed on September 8 in the afternoon. This motion arises as a political instrument of the party to question the Executive's actions following the incidents in Porto.
BE argued that Chega should have accepted Luís Neves' hearing to obtain answers about the police operation on São João night, instead of choosing the motion of censure route. PCP, for its part, considered that André Ventura's party does not have a genuine interest in clarifications, using the motion as an instrument of political spectacle.
