The Portuguese Government intends to end the obligation to request a medical certificate at the Health Center for purposes such as driver's license renewal or obtaining a hunting license. The measure aims to solve a problem that has overloaded primary healthcare.
Currently, many patients go to Health Centers exclusively to obtain a medical certificate for administrative purposes, which directly competes with patients who actually need clinical follow-up. This situation has contributed to the difficulty in scheduling medical appointments.
The Executive's proposal is to eliminate these unnecessary requirements in public health services, thus freeing medical professionals to focus on providing genuine healthcare. In this way, the aim is to improve access for patients who need real medical appointments.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy of administrative simplification and optimization of National Health Service resources, allowing Health Centers to devote more attention to their true patients.
