JPP warns of lack of fishermen on tuna vessels

Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) warned, through a statement, about the difficulties that the largest tuna vessels in the Region face in recruiting fishermen. The party considers that this situation constitutes another "warning sign" about the structural problems affecting the present and future of fisheries in Madeira.

JPP's position comes a few days after the Regional Government announced the increase in the bigeye tuna quota for 2026. The Madeiran executive presented this decision as an opportunity to increase fishermen's income and create better conditions for the sector.

The party considers that the lack of fishermen on tuna vessels reveals deep structural problems in the fishing activity of the Region, which threaten both the current situation and the future of the sector.
