The State of Rio may have a specific policy to prevent and combat the so-called fake lawyer scam and other electronic frauds related to judicial proceedings. Bill 6,560/25 was approved on first discussion by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj), last Tuesday. The measure still needs to pass a second vote in the house.
The proposal is authored by Deputy Renato Miranda (PL). Among the measures provided for in the text are permanent educational campaigns to guide the population on how to identify false contacts, recognize official communications and verify the authenticity of lawyers.
The policy also aims to encourage digital security actions and expand the protection of personal data of lawyers, parties and witnesses involved in judicial proceedings. The objective is to reduce the incidence of scams that use the identity of legal professionals to commit fraud.
