The State of Rio de Janeiro may have a specific policy to prevent and combat the so-called fake lawyer scam and other electronic fraud related to judicial proceedings. Bill 6,560/25 was approved on first reading by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj), last Tuesday. The measure still needs to pass a second vote in the house.
The proposal is authored by Deputy Renato Miranda (PL). Among the measures provided for in the text are permanent educational campaigns to guide the population on how to identify fake contacts, recognize official communications and verify the authenticity of lawyers.
The policy also aims to encourage digital security actions and expand the protection of personal data of lawyers, parties and witnesses involved in judicial proceedings. The goal is to create more effective protection mechanisms in light of the increase in this type of electronic fraud.
