The North American president Donald Trump advocated before the United States Congress the approval of tax incentive legislation for the country's film and television production. In a post published on the Truth Social social network, Trump wrote that "Congress must pass, immediately, a Federal Production Incentive to create jobs in the entertainment industry in the United States". The proposal was nicknamed by the press as the "American Rouanet Law", in reference to the Brazilian culture incentive mechanism.
The main objective of the proposal is to bring back to the United States the film and television jobs that were transferred to other countries in recent years. The Republican politician's statement generated repercussions in the American audiovisual sector and reignited the debate about the delocalization of film and television productions.
Trump's proposal received support from important American audiovisual union institutions, including SAG-AFTRA (Actors Union of the United States), Teamsters Local 399, which represents 6,500 professionals of the film industry in California and New Mexico, and IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees), which represents technicians and craftsmen of the sector.
