Over one million euros to 'transform' Largo da Fontainha

A Voz de Trás-os-Montes3 September 2026 at 14:51

The Sabrosa Municipal Council will invest over one million euros in the requalification of Largo da Fontainha, an intervention that president Helena Lapa considered to be a "long-needed work". The project aims to bring new dynamism and centrality to a space that, according to the mayor, is "completely abandoned" and in a state of degradation "very advanced".

Helena Lapa explained that the municipality intends to maintain and preserve the main elements of the square, including the century-old plane trees and the baroque-style fountain that exists there. The goal is to preserve what is important in the collective memory of the Sabrosenses, while creating a structure of social well-being, of meeting and sharing.

The intervention will make Largo da Fontainha into a new centrality that will connect with BB King park, the municipal market, the secondary school, the historic center, and Quinta dos Moura. The mayor stated that this new project will give a "new centrality" to the town of Sabrosa.

The Palácio do Planalto announced that it considers the INSS benefits queue cleared, after the number of requests under analysis (1.252 million) fell below the new requests registered in August (about 1.3 million). However, about 224 thousand requests still await a response for more than 45 days, the deadline previously used as reference. The government highlights that requests over 45 days fell from 1.8 million (peak in February) to just over 200 thousand. The average processing time is 34 days. To reduce the backlog, the government cites hiring of servers, remote service, documentary expertise, bonuses and blitz events.
