The Directorate-General for Health (DGS) issued a guideline that determines the start of the seasonal pediatric vaccination campaign against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) on September 16. This is a seasonal initiative aimed at protecting children during the period of highest circulation of the virus.
According to the guideline issued by the DGS, all babies will be eligible to receive the RSV vaccination. Respiratory syncytial virus is a pathogen that especially affects the respiratory airways of newborns and young children, and can cause serious complications.
The immunization campaign begins in September, coinciding with the approach of autumn and winter, seasons in which respiratory viruses tend to circulate more intensely. This timing allows children to be protected before the peak of seasonal RSV transmission.
