Medical students will develop community outreach actions alongside the population of the municipality of São Pedro do Sul. The initiative is part of the "Saúde na Terra" project, promoted by the Baixo Vouga Delegation of the Portuguese Association of Medical Students.
The future doctors will travel through the various parishes of the municipality of São Pedro do Sul over the next weekends. The actions include health screenings, door-to-door visits and health promotion activities for residents.
In addition to the screenings, the project includes Basic Life Support training, allowing the teaching of essential skills in emergency situations to the population. This training component aims to empower citizens to act correctly until the arrival of rescue services.
The "Saúde na Terra" project aims to bring preventive healthcare to communities that, due to their geographical location, often have less access to this type of service. The students will thus contribute to bringing medicine closer to the more isolated populations of the territory.
