Commander Luís Elias, from the PSP, publicly asked for "less alarmist speeches" regarding security in Lisbon. The statement comes at a time when the question of security in the Portuguese capital has been publicly debated.
According to the commander, the situation should not be interpreted exclusively as a security problem. Luís Elias argues that it is also a public health issue, warning of the need for a broader approach than simple police response.
To effectively address this issue, Commander Luís Elias argues that a joint intervention is necessary. This collaboration should involve not only security forces, but also the health system and Social Security, thus recognizing the multidimensional nature of the problem.
