Brussels is assessing a reinforcement of the European agency Frontex and more support in the Spanish enclave. The organization wants to analyze where Frontex can provide additional support and how to maintain the existing presence in the region.
At issue is a request submitted by the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez. The Spanish government is said to have requested greater assistance from the European Union in the enclave, possibly related to border management and migratory flows.
Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, is the body responsible for evaluating and coordinating this type of support requests between EU countries. The assessment is underway to determine the best way to respond to Spanish needs.
