Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere signed on Thursday the law that officially creates and delineates the Bairro dos Ingleses neighborhood, located in the North Zone of Rio, between Del Castilho and Maria da Graça. The new neighborhood is composed of ten streets characterized by large typical suburban houses, with large lots of at least 500 square meters.

The origin of the name dates back to the last century, when British technicians came to work at the Nova América Textile Company and settled in the area. The bill that formalizes the neighborhood is authored by councilwoman Rosa Fernandes.

According to estimates from the residents' association, about 800 properties pay IPTU within the perimeter of the new neighborhood. With the publication of the mayor's signature, Bairro dos Ingleses now officially becomes part of the map of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The Palácio do Planalto announced that it considers the INSS benefits queue cleared, after the number of requests under analysis (1.252 million) fell below the new requests registered in August (about 1.3 million). However, about 224 thousand requests still await a response for more than 45 days, the deadline previously used as reference. The government highlights that requests over 45 days fell from 1.8 million (peak in February) to just over 200 thousand. The average processing time is 34 days. To reduce the backlog, the government cites hiring of servers, remote service, documentary expertise, bonuses and blitz events.
