Maroto removes Enma López from the leadership of the PSOE in Madrid after their confrontation in the primaries

The attempt at internal revolt ended up costing Enma López dearly. The until now deputy spokesperson and number two of the PSOE in Madrid was removed from the leadership of the municipal group. The decision was made by Reyes Maroto, current socialist spokesperson, and was known this Thursday, only about a month and a half after López had tried to dispute the mayoral candidacy in the July primaries.

The direct confrontation between López and Maroto occurred during the party's primary process, when López challenged Maroto for the candidacy for mayor of Madrid. Despite the dispute, Maroto ended up winning the primaries and remaining as the socialist candidate.

This removal represents the political consequences of López's attempt to challenge Maroto's leadership within the PSOE in Madrid. By being removed from the position of deputy spokesperson, López loses her prominent position in the party's municipal leadership.
