Tens of thousands of people gathered in Madrid this Wednesday to participate in a large-scale demonstration, demanding that the Spanish government present solutions for the situation in Ceuta. The Spanish authorities estimated participation at around 50 thousand demonstrators.
Ceuta, a Spanish enclave located in North Africa, faces an ongoing border crisis. The city normally celebrated its official holiday on September 2nd, but the annual festivities were overshadowed by protests that spread throughout the country.
The participants in the Madrid demonstration waved Spanish flags and carried signs with messages such as "Ceuta is not for sale" and "We want to know the truth", expressing their demand for transparency and explanations about what is happening in the region.
The crisis in Ceuta has been generating a wave of indignation in Spain, with citizens pressuring the government to provide clear answers about the situation at the border and about the measures to be adopted to resolve the problem.
