Ukraine's intelligence services SBU and GUR exchanged gunfire on the streets of Kyiv during an operation involving an alleged Russian plan to assassinate a Putin opposition leader. The confrontation between the two agencies took place in the heart of the Ukrainian capital, resulting in three injured.
The incident is linked to the disappearance of the deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, an armed group of Russian opposition fighters who fight alongside Ukraine. The exact circumstances that led to the confrontation remain partially unclear, but Ukrainian authorities acknowledge that something went seriously wrong.
President Volodymyr Zelensky classified the case as absolutely shameful and demanded a thorough investigation into what happened. The situation exposed significant tensions between Ukraine's different security forces, at a time when the country is facing the Russian invasion.
This episode raises questions about coordination between Ukraine's intelligence services and the management of sensitive operations, especially those involving Russian opposition figures who fight alongside Kyiv against Moscow.
