Brussels is preparing new visa restrictions for countries it considers hostile. The European Commission intends to impose limitations on the issuance of visas to citizens of nations that are seen as a threat or that carry out hostile actions against the European Union.
Markus Lammert, responsible for the European Commission, stated that restricting the issuance of visas to Russian citizens has been an important priority since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. This position reflects the willingness to diplomatically pressure Russia through restrictive measures.
The new measures particularly target Russian citizens, in an attempt to demonstrate the European Union's position regarding the conflict. These restrictions are part of a broader set of sanctions and measures adopted against Russia since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine.
