The Federal Police launched on Thursday an operation to investigate suspected vote buying in Nilópolis, in Baixada Fluminense, during the 2024 municipal elections. State deputy Ricardo Abrão, from the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), is the target of a home and personal search and seizure warrant. The PF also obtained a court order to lift the secrecy of data from seized electronic equipment.
Thursday's operation represents a follow-up to an investigation started in October 2024. At that time, the Federal Police arrested 24 people during the initial investigation of the facts. In February 2025, the investigation advanced with the execution of judicial warrants in the so-called Operation Astreia, which was also part of this same inquiry.
The case is related to irregularities in the 2024 municipal elections in the municipality of Nilópolis, located in the Baixada Fluminense region of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The investigation continues to determine responsibility for the allegedly committed electoral crimes.
