Democrats demand that Homeland Security authorities fund election security before midterm elections

Tuugo3 September 2026 at 12:19

Two Democratic legislators tasked with overseeing federal elections are demanding that the Department of Homeland Security distribute the funds designated for election security, as determined by Congress.

The Democrats question why the Trump administration has not released the approved money to protect electoral processes at the state and local levels before the midterm elections.

Congress had approved funds for this purpose, but the Homeland Security authorities have not yet distributed the funds to the states and municipalities.

The demand comes at a time of growing concerns about the security of American elections in the face of possible external interference.

After protests and resignation requests, Spain's prime minister again rejects that Morocco contributed to the Ceuta crisis

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez again exempted Morocco's government from any responsibility for the migration crisis in Ceuta, stating in Parliament that there is no solid evidence that Rabat planned or executed the incident. The statement comes amid strong political pressure, with opposition resignation calls and popular protests in Ceuta, where thousands of people took to the streets on Wednesday night. Sánchez reaffirmed the official version that disinformation networks would have encouraged migration flows, trying to quell criticism of his management of the crisis in the Spanish enclave in northern Africa.
