The City Hall of Duque de Caxias installed 30 physical blockers in "pen" format on the access ramps of 15 footbridges in the municipality. The objective is to prevent the irregular circulation of motorcycles and guarantee more safety to pedestrians who cross on foot. The structures were designed to block the passage of motorcycles without compromising the circulation of pedestrians, including people who use wheelchairs.
The equipment is distributed across the three districts of the city: eight footbridges received the blockers in the First District, four in the Second and three in the Third. The measure aims both at the safety of footbridge users and public safety in general, since some footbridges were being used as escape routes after the commission of crimes.
The physical restriction seeks to make it more difficult for motorcyclists involved in criminal actions to use these locations, strengthening the protection of the population. The circulation of motorcycles on footbridges is already prohibited by article 193 of the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), and the violation is considered serious.
