Mainland Portugal is on alert due to intense heat being felt across the country. The Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA) has extended the yellow warning for hot weather until Saturday and expanded it to 14 districts.
The highest temperatures are expected this Friday, with the districts of Setúbal and Évora able to reach 43 degrees Celsius.
The extreme heat situation is also increasing the risk of rural fire, with several municipalities presenting maximum or very high fire danger.
Authorities recommend prudence to the population, especially during the hottest hours, avoiding prolonged sun exposure and staying hydrated.
