The Estonian Defence Minister submitted his resignation following a scandal related to the procurement of weapons for Ukraine funded by European Union funds amounting to 70 million euros.
The case involves an arms agreement that was paid with EU funds, with the payment being made to an Indian company with no track record in ammunition production.
The scandal emerged when it was revealed that the chosen Indian company to supply the military equipment had no proven experience in ammunition manufacturing, raising questions about the adequacy and transparency of the procurement process.
The minister's resignation comes at a time when Estonia has been one of the main supporters of Ukraine in its defence against the Russian invasion, with the Baltic country having devoted a significant proportion of its defence resources to help Kyiv.
