The Government published in the Official Gazette a decree that grants museum workers a supplement of 60 euros for each normal working day on public holidays. This amount is paid to workers of Museus e Monumentos de Portugal, E. P. E., who perform public reception and support functions in the cultural facilities of this entity, without prejudice to the remuneration already legally provided for this situation.
The measure has retroactive effects from April 1st, 2025. The decree also establishes that this amount will be updated annually in accordance with the percentage increase applied to the Single Remuneration Table of Public Administration.
At the end of April, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Finance announced, in a joint statement, an agreement reached with the sector's unions to establish this new salary supplement.
This decision ended two years of claims by workers of Museus e Monumentos de Portugal, who throughout 2025 announced several strikes on public holidays.
