IPCG debates the impact of climate risks and data quality on business strategy and financing

Jornal Económico3 September 2026 at 09:41

The Portuguese Institute of Corporate Governance (IPCG) promotes on September 15th at the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon its Annual ESG Conference under the theme "Business Strategy, Data Quality and Financing". The event has the support of the four major audit firms – Deloitte, EY, KPMG, and PwC – and addresses the integration of environmental, social, and governance criteria into risk assessment and access to credit.

The conference will include four panels that will analyze the incorporation of sustainability into business strategy, the quality of non-financial information, the challenges of mandatory reporting, and the impact of new European regulation, namely the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Taxonomy Regulation.

The panel on climate risks will feature representatives from Banco de Portugal and the Securities Market Commission (CMVM), who will discuss the supervision of the financial sector's exposure to climate and transition shocks, as well as the reliability of data reported by listed companies. A roundtable dedicated to strategy and financing will include executives from NOS, Novobanco, Floene, and Benfica SAD.

The opening of the conference will be led by João Moreira Rato, President of the IPCG Board, with the closing to be led by António Gomes Mota, President of the institute's Supervisory Board. IPCG underlines that the quality and comparability of sustainability data are today as critical as traditional financial information.
