The Republican National Guard (GNR) arrests on average around 280 drivers per week in Portuguese territory for excess alcohol in the blood, values that exceed the legal limits and are considered a crime.

The districts of Porto, Setúbal, Aveiro and Faro are those where the highest number of arrests and crimes related to driving under the influence of alcohol are recorded.

These data reveal the extent of the problem of driving under the influence of alcohol in Portugal, with authorities maintaining strong control on the roads to identify and detain offenders.

The GNR continues to reinforce enforcement operations on Portuguese roads to combat this type of crime and ensure road safety.
