Dentists on their way to the Local Health Unit of the Aveiro Region

The Local Health Unit of the Aveiro Region is preparing to receive dentists, a significant step for the expansion of oral health care in the National Health Service of the region. The creation of the dental medicine career in the NHS was an important milestone that paved the way for this integration.

However, full implementation still faces obstacles. The conclusion of collective bargaining and the inclusion of expenditure in the State Budget of 2027 is necessary so that dental medicine services and offices can effectively open to the public.

At the same time, the ULS of the Aveiro Region has already taken a concrete first step by performing its first maxillary expansion surgery, demonstrating technical capacity and preparation to offer these services.

Dental medicine professionals will be integrated into the NHS structure through the new career created, benefiting from a professional framework that aims to attract and retain these specialists in the public health sector.
