The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, appears this Thursday before the Congress of Deputies to provide clarifications about the migration crisis that hit Ceuta at the beginning of August. Sánchez faces pressure from opposition parties and part of Spanish public opinion because of the way his government handled the situation.
Ceuta is a Spanish autonomous city located in North Africa, being one of two Spanish cities on the African continent, bordering Morocco. The migration crisis caused a massive arrival of people to the territory, creating a humanitarian and political emergency situation.
Sánchez's appearance before the Congress of Deputies comes within the framework of accountability that the executive is obligated to provide to parliament on matters of national interest. It is up to the deputies to evaluate the prime minister's explanations and, eventually, demand political responsibility for the way the crisis was managed.
