A one-year-old baby was allegedly the victim of months of physical and psychological violence at the hands of the mother and stepfather, in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil. The case was discovered after the child was hospitalized with severe head trauma, a situation that led to the arrest of the two suspects, who were placed in preventive detention.

The facts became public when the child was taken to a hospital with serious head injuries. After the hospitalization, authorities were alerted and began an investigation that revealed that the violence had been ongoing for several months.

The mother and stepfather were arrested and placed in preventive detention. Brazilian authorities continue to investigate the extent of the abuse inflicted on the child during the period she was under the care of the two suspects.
