Sertanejo singer Alcemir da Luz Carlos Filho, 38 years old, known artistically as Eduardo and member of the duo Eduardo & Derick, is hospitalized at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) in Goiânia, after being diagnosed with promyelocytic leukemia. The case mobilized artists such as Murilo Huff and Trio Alma Sertanja, who turned to social media to request blood and platelet donations in support of the musician.
Eduardo began showing signs of the disease in July, when bruises appeared on his body. According to his wife, Daniele Mesquita, the singer initially associated the marks with minor accidents and the routine of physical work. He was hospitalized in Orizona, in southern Goiás, on August 3, after presenting weakness and a sharp drop in platelet count, and later transferred to the capital of Goiás.
The article also briefly mentions other recent cases in Brazilian music, including the death of Paulinha Abelha and of Rogério Valença, who is described as the third lead vocalist of Calcinha Preta to die in the last five years.
