Government Acknowledges Problems with the Volta System

The Minister of Environment, Maria da Graça Carvalho, acknowledged that the implementation of the Volta System in Portugal has faced several problems, including the disposal of packaging on public roads. In statements to Portuguese journalists in Brussels, after meetings at the European Commission, the minister assured that all identified situations are being analyzed and resolved "case by case". The Volta System is a European mechanism for the return of packaging, and Portugal was the 18th country to adopt it, which may explain some of the initial difficulties in implementation.

Ministry of Finance refuses Federal District Government meeting request about loan to 'save' BRB

The Ministry of Finance refused a meeting request from the Federal District government (GDF) with Minister Dario Durigan to discuss a R$ 6.6 billion loan from the Credit Guarantee Fund (FGC) intended to save the Bank of Brasília (BRB). In an official letter, the Finance Ministry stated that the Office of the Attorney General and the Office of the Chief Counsel for the National Treasury already represent the Union in the negotiations, and that the operation requires coordination between the DF and the financial market. More than nine thousand places for elderly created since April 2024, says Government

The Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security announced that more than nine thousand places for support to elderly people have been created since April 2024, in residential facilities, day care centres, home care services and collaborative housing solutions. Of the total, 7,075 places result from investments under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, including 2,446 places in Residential Facilities for Elderly People, 845 in day care centres, 3,428 in home care services and 356 in collaborative housing. Improvement works were also carried out covering 7,932 places. The Executive emphasises that increasing capacity allows for diversifying available responses and promotes the autonomy and well-being of the elderly population, highlighting cooperation with social and solidarity sector institutions.
