The teams had drawn 1-1 in the first leg of the quarter-finals. The second leg was decided in the final minutes, with Atlético securing qualification for the next round.
Now, Atlético awaits the definition of their opponent in the semi-finals, which will come from another derby, this time from Rio Grande do Sul. Grêmio and Internacional face each other this Thursday (3rd), at 8 PM (Brasília time), after a scoreless draw in the first match. The Grenal derby will decide who faces Atlético-MG in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Earlier, on Wednesday (2nd), two other semi-finalists will be decided. Vitória hosts Vasco at Barradão, at 9:30 PM. The Bahia team needs to overturn the 1-0 advantage built by the Rio de Janeiro club in the first leg. At the same time, Santos and Palmeiras face each other at Vila Belmiro. The São Paulo capital team won the first match 3-0, at Nubank Parque, and guarantees qualification even if they lose by up to two goals.
The semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil are scheduled to be played in the coming weeks, with the four qualified teams vying for a spot in the grand final of the tournament.
