Germany holds Russia responsible for drone attack with explosives at Leipzig airport

Eco1 September 2026 at 18:05

The German Government officially attributed the explosive drone attacks at Leipzig/Halle airport to Russia and announced a set of measures against Moscow. The German Interior Minister, Alexander Dobrindt, stated that Germany is not at war, but is daily targeted by hybrid warfare and is defending itself against adversities.

The German authorities believe that a Russian intelligence services agency was behind the operation, using methods similar to those of other hybrid operations attributed to Russia, which allegedly involved low-level intermediaries. Russia has not yet commented on the accusation.

Berlin's response includes the closure of the Russian General Consulate in Bonn on September 18, the termination of the contract allowing the Russian House of Science and Culture to operate in Berlin, the reinforcement of controls on the entry of Russian citizens, and increased pressure on the so-called Russian "shadow fleet." The German Foreign Minister is also expected to summon the Russian ambassador.

In early August, a drone with an explosive charge was found in the security zone of Leipzig/Halle airport, between Ukrainian cargo planes, and a second drone was found days later. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte expressed full solidarity with Germany and the European Union is preparing new sanctions against Russia.

Cuba's ambassador to Washington, Lianys Torres Rivera, declared that the dialogue channel between the two countries is completely paralyzed and that both sides cannot even agree on a basic agenda. The impasse occurs at a time of increasing infant mortality and preventable deaths on the island, despite the American pressure campaign that includes a de facto blockade on fuel supplies and measures against foreign companies.

"When the sun sets, the charm only grows": Australians fall for this Algarve city for its beaches, gastronomy and nightlife

The city of Lagos, in the Portuguese Algarve, was highlighted by Lonely Planet as the region's best choice for dining and nightlife, featuring among the eight best places to visit in the Algarve in a 2026 article. The Australian publication emphasizes that although Lagos offers much during the day — including beaches such as Praia de Dona Ana, rock formations at Ponta da Piedade, and historical heritage such as the Castle of the Governors and Fort of Ponta da Bandeira — it is after sunset that the city gains its greatest charm, with fresh fish and seafood restaurants, craft beer bars and dance venues that bring the cobblestone streets of the historic centre to life.
