US Sanctions Block Dialogue with Cuba, Havana Government Says

oglobo1 September 2026 at 19:49

The Cuban government stated that the United States under the leadership of President Donald Trump is unwilling to discuss trade, diplomacy, or any other issue that could help ease the suffering caused by American sanctions. The impasse occurs at a time of increasing infant mortality and preventable deaths on the island.

Cuba's ambassador to the United States, Lianys Torres Rivera, declared that the dialogue channel between the two countries is completely paralyzed and that both sides cannot even agree on a basic agenda.

Despite Trump's pressure campaign, which includes a de facto blockade on fuel supplies and measures against foreign companies operating on the island, the diplomat stated that the Cuban government maintains its position on the need for dialogue.
