The former US president made these declarations referring to Venezuelan oil extraction as a lucrative operation for both Washington and Caracas.
However, the reality experienced by the majority of Venezuelan citizens strongly contrasts with this narrative. Local citizens assure that they continue to face enormous economic difficulties and that they have not seen any benefit from this supposed money generated by oil.
In Cabimas, one of the oil cities in the country, workers earn less than one euro per month, which highlights the abyssal distance between the profits announced by Trump and the real situation of the local population. This economic reality leaves many Venezuelan citizens skeptical about the benefits that supposedly come from oil exploration.
