Castellón is celebrating its 775th anniversary with the holding of five conferences that allow discovering the history of its founding. These conferences are part of the celebrations that mark this special date for the city.
On September 8, 1251, King James I the Conqueror signed in Lérida the Privilegio de Traslado, a legal document that authorized the population to leave the fortified settlement of Castell Vell to establish themselves in a new location.
With the signing of this document, the "birth record" of Castellón was created, establishing a singularity in Spain. This is because most Spanish cities do not have a precise founding date, having evolved from Iberian, Roman, or Muslim settlements.
Castellón therefore stands out for having an official founding date, which is an exception among Spanish cities and a notable fact in terms of historical documentation.
