ULS Viseu Dão-Lafões expands medication dispensing through pharmacies

Notícias de Coimbra1 September 2026 at 13:06

The Local Health Unit (ULS) Viseu Dão-Lafões is reinforcing the distribution of medications, expanding dispensing through community pharmacies. This measure aims to facilitate patients' access to prescribed medications, avoiding unnecessary trips to health units.

The initiative covers medications that were usually collected at hospital pharmacies or at ULS health units. With this expansion, patients can now pick up their medication at community pharmacies, closer to their homes.

This measure is part of a strategy of proximity to patients, allowing greater convenience in accessing treatments. ULS Viseu Dão-Lafões intends in this way to reduce waiting times and facilitate the daily lives of patients who need chronic or ongoing medication.

Vatican: Pope denounces water commodification

Pope Leo XIV called for the defense of water as a universal right, rejecting its transformation into a commodity. In the prayer intention for September, released by the Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network, the pontiff asked forgiveness for having made water a "commodity" and defended it as a "universal gift, a right without borders." The message, which marks the beginning of the Season of Creation, alerts to the 2.1 billion people without safe access to drinking water in the world and calls for Catholics to be "pilgrims of the essential," living with sobriety and denouncing waste and contamination.
