The Golden September campaign, dedicated to raising awareness about pediatric cancer, highlights the importance of both parents being present during the accompaniment of children with cancer. The campaign alerts to the need to ensure that parents can accompany their children during the most critical moments of the disease.
The Acreditar organization calls for a review of the existing accompaniment regime so that the simultaneous presence of both parents with children during oncological treatment is permitted. The objective is to ensure that no child has to face the most difficult moments of the disease alone.
According to Acreditar, the current regime does not adequately ensure the simultaneous presence of both parents, which can compromise emotional support for the child and family stability during the treatment process.
The organization emphasizes that family accompaniment is fundamental for the well-being of children with cancer, advocating that legislation must be changed to respond to the real needs of Portuguese families facing this disease.
