The European Union will suspend the entry of Brazilian beef into its market from Thursday, September 3, according to a confirmation attributed to the European Commission. The information was released this Tuesday, September 1, by Irish MEP Ciaran Mullooly, who stated that he received the news through the office of the European Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare, Oliver Varhelyi.
The decision applies to the European market comprehensively, including Ireland, and is related to food safety issues that, according to the information transmitted to the MEP, remain unresolved. Mullooly confirmed the information on social media platform X, stating that "Brazilian beef leaves the menu from Thursday, September 3, in Ireland and Europe."
The measure was taken despite efforts by Brazilian authorities to secure a change to the decision. Brasília had sought to have the suspension reversed or, at the very least, to have its entry into force delayed, but the arguments presented were apparently not sufficient to stop the measure.
