The Senior Academy of Seia (ACASES) opened registrations in August for the 2026/2027 school year, aimed at people aged 60 or over. Registrations run until the end of September and can be made at the institution's headquarters, which is located at Rua António Teixeira, No. 31, in Seia, or through the telephone and email contacts provided.

The institution promotes, in collaboration with the Municipality of Seia and local partners, a diverse offering of disciplines and activities in the areas of Arts, Dance, Sports, Law, Literature and Music, among others. The program also includes cultural, recreational and leisure initiatives.

The new school year is scheduled to run between September 14, 2026 and June 11, 2027, with breaks during the Christmas, Carnival and Easter periods. The Senior Academy seeks to provide participants with opportunities for non-formal learning, participation in cultural and sports activities and social interaction.

The initiative is part of the active aging promotion policy, providing people over 60 with opportunities for lifelong learning and community participation. ACASES also has a component of managerial and teaching volunteering.

Old phone booth is now a street library in Belmonte

An old abandoned phone booth in Belmonte, which had not been used for years, was transformed into a street library called "cabine das histórias" (story booth), a project by the Association Belmonte em Movimento in partnership with IPDJ and the Parish Council. The project, approved by IPDJ, involved voluntary work by young people and aims to promote sustainability, book sharing, and the preservation of the public garden. The booth currently has 200 to 300 books, obtained through approximately 20 donations, and intends to promote activities such as Story Time. The association hopes the population will welcome the initiative positively, considering the recurring vandalism problems in the town.

Tehran promises to return to commitments if US restores agreement

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian stated at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan that Iran is willing to immediately return to its commitments under the memorandum of understanding with the United States, if Washington does the same. The agreement, signed in June to end the war between Tehran and Washington, collapsed in July with mutual accusations of violation. The Strait of Hormuz remains the main point of discord, with Tehran keeping the strategic waterway closed while awaiting the US to return to its commitments.
