The second phase of the national higher education access competition has approximately 11,112 available places, according to data released by the Ministry of Education. This number results from combining the 6,639 places that remained unfilled in the first phase with the 4,512 places freed up by students who, although placed, did not enroll, plus two places freed up from appeals.
Of the nearly 50 thousand students who had been placed in the first phase, 4,512 did not enroll, which freed up places for the second phase. The article highlights that highly sought-after courses, such as Medicine, now have available places: at the University of Coimbra, of the 291 open places, five placed students did not enroll; at Nova University of Lisbon, of the 232 placed, two did not enroll and one place was consumed in appeals. At the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon, of the 447 placed, 57 did not enroll.
