The National Secretariat for Christian Education (SNEC) launched on September 1st, 2026 the catechetical resource "Being a Friend of Jesus", which replaces the previous first volume of catechesis. The new material is integrated in the Emmaus collection and marks the arrival of childhood in the new paradigm of catechesis proposed by the Itinerary of Christian Initiation for Children and Adolescents with Families.
The launch was announced by Sister Arminda Faustino, coordinator of the Catechesis Department of SNEC, who stated her desire to help communities provide children and families with a true path of encounter with Jesus. Friendship with Jesus takes a central place in this journey, seeking to help each child progressively discover the beauty of the relationship with Him.
The new Itinerary proposes a paradigm shift that involves not only the resources used, but also the understanding of the mission of catechesis, the processes of Christian initiation, and the role of families. The editorial planning foresees the continuity of this structural transformation with the publication of IVC1 and IVC2 volumes, planned for next year.
The practical implementation of the new reference framework will be supported by a training session aimed at diocesan catechesis teams, scheduled for September 15th. "Being a Friend of Jesus" is available for sale at diocesan bookstores throughout the country. Sister Arminda Faustino expressed her wish that this new catechetical year may be a time of renewal, encounter, and joy, helping each child discover, more and more, the beauty of being a friend of Jesus.
