US signs agreement to increase missile production amid reports of stock shortages

cbn31 August 2026 at 15:35

The Pentagon signed seven-year agreements with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) and Lockheed Martin to increase missile production in the United States. According to the companies, the agreements "will increase production quantities and accelerate delivery timelines for critical missile subcomponents."

The agreements are part of an effort to expand what has been called the "Arsenal of Freedom." US Deputy Secretary of Defense Michael P. Duffey stated that the companies "answered the call" and that the goal is to reduce bureaucracy, shorten timelines, and rapidly expand domestic production capacity to provide advanced air and missile defense resources.

As context, Reuters reported earlier this month that the US Army had used much of its global stockpile of long-range precision-guided missiles during recent conflicts, which reportedly motivated the urgency behind the production agreements.

Trump begins admitting scenario of leaving the White House in 2029

Donald Trump has started making increasingly explicit references to the possibility of leaving the White House in January 2029, imagining in recent speeches what it will be like to watch his successor claim the results of his administration on television. Although he continues to nurture the idea of a third term and posts images on social media with the inscription "Trump 2028", his statements represent a shift in tone from his earlier suggestions that he might remain in power beyond the eight years allowed by the 22nd Amendment of the United States Constitution. The White House rejected that Trump is already focused on the end of his presidency, stating that the President is only concerned with "making America greater than ever".
