PSP Union Association decides new protests on September 10

The Association of Police Professionals (ASPP/PSP) announced that it will hold a meeting on September 10 to decide on new nationwide protests. During this meeting, the association's members will evaluate the measures to take against the lack of responses from the Government.

The union organization had been expressing dissatisfaction with the absence of dialogue on the part of government authorities. This decision to schedule a new date for debating protests arises in a context of tension between PSP professionals and the executive.

ASPP/PSP represents the Public Security Police professionals, who have been demanding better working conditions and greater Government attention to their needs. The protests to be discussed aim to pressure the executive to respond to the demands of the police class.

90 years ago, on August 28, 1936, President Getúlio Vargas signed a decree ordering the deportation of Olga Benário Prestes, a German activist from a Jewish family and wife of communist leader Luiz Carlos Prestes, to Nazi Germany. Olga had been arrested months earlier, in March, during a police operation with more than 90 agents, in a building in the Cachambi neighborhood, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Despite being pregnant with Prestes' child and being his legitimate wife, nothing prevented Vargas's decision, who was aware of the situation of Jews in Germany, where the Nuremberg Laws, enacted in 1935, had already stripped this population of various rights.
