The think tank that Carneiro hosts, but which could stir up the PS

SOL29 August 2026 at 12:04

Instituto Progresso is a new think tank that emerged this week, having been founded by socialist deputy Miguel Costa Matos. The project was publicly presented and aims to be a platform for reflection and political debate.

In addition to the socialist founder, Instituto Progresso already has signatures from PSD members, namely Mónica Quintela and Rui Silva Leal, which demonstrates a reach beyond a single political party.

Miguel Costa Matos guarantees that the project "goes beyond the PS", emphasizing its suprapartisan nature. However, the greatest agitation caused by Instituto Progresso is precisely within the Socialist Party.

The creation of this think tank comes at a time of political tension and may become a source of internal divisions in the PS, although the founder argues that it is an initiative that transcends party boundaries.

A suspended strike and rejection of the "educational police": the 2026-2027 school year warms up with several controversial fronts

With a teachers' strike suspended but not cancelled, a demonstration planned for the 12th and strong rejection from school principals, teachers and inspectors of the reform that would transform the inspectorate into a kind of "educational police" to pursue alleged "indoctrination", the 2026-2027 school year begins in Spain with several controversial fronts open. The teaching unrest that culminated in a one-month indefinite strike continues without complete answers to its demands, despite partial negotiations during the summer. A march is prepared to not let the demands fall by the wayside at the start of this course.
