Mariana Leitão, leader of Iniciativa Liberal (IL), criticized PS and PSD for having abandoned the Portuguese middle class, considering that it is "under attack". In her speech, the liberal leader presented a set of measures she advocates for the current legislative session.
The first proposed measure is to simplify and lower IRS (income tax), in order to reduce the tax burden on taxpayers. The second measure consists of ending bureaucracy, which Leitão classified as "the worst tax that exists", emphasizing the costs that administrative complexity represents for citizens and businesses.
The third IL measure focuses on pension system reform, with the objective of allowing young people to have more options, be able to save and be "owners" of their own future. This proposal aims to give greater autonomy to younger people in preparing for retirement.
Mariana Leitão's speech comes in the context of a broader debate on taxation and social protection in Portugal, with the IL leader positioning herself as a defender of an alternative to the policies pursued by the two main Portuguese parties.
