Icelanders reject reopening of EU accession negotiations

Icelanders rejected the reopening of accession negotiations with the European Union, according to the final results of the referendum held on Saturday. The question submitted to the vote asked whether Iceland should reopen accession negotiations with the European Union.

The final results revealed that 52.8% of voters voted "no", while 47.2% voted "yes", showing a clear majority against reopening negotiations with the European bloc. The difference between the two options was approximately 5.6 percentage points.

The results were announced by Icelandic public television RÚV after all ballots were counted. The French news agency AFP was the source responsible for reporting the referendum numbers.
