Miguel Albuquerque announced today that the Regional Government of Madeira will return tomorrow to intervene in fuel prices through the Excise Duty on Petroleum Products, maintaining the price differential compared to the mainland. The President of the Regional Government highlighted that this measure has been applied weekly since January, as a way to mitigate the impact of fuel prices in the region.
At the presentation of the eight new electric buses from CAM, Albuquerque stated that the electrification of transport represents the "great solution" to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. This intervention comes in the context of a broader energy transition strategy for the region.
The fuel price intervention measure through the ISP aims to protect Madeiran consumers from the high prices practiced in the market, taking advantage of the fiscal autonomy that the region has to apply different rates from those in mainland Portugal.
