The Government of the state of Gujarat received an email with threats against various institutions and Indian political authorities days before the recent BRICS summit, which was held in New Delhi. The threats included references to bombs and were considered serious enough to warrant a thorough investigation by the Indian authorities.
The Indian police managed to trace the threats to approximately 500 thousand fake Gmail accounts that were created for this purpose. These fake accounts were used to send the bomb threat emails, making it difficult to identify the actual perpetrators due to the use of fictitious identities.
